Captain America: Brave New World – Redefined in Stunning 3D

Marvel Studios’ Captain America: Brave New World delivers an exhilarating new chapter in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Starring Anthony Mackie as Sam Wilson, now fully stepping into the mantle of Captain America, this geopolitical thriller combines action, intrigue, and cinematic spectacle. SDFX Studios proudly teamed up with Marvel Studios to craft the stereoscopic version of Captain America: Brave New World, transforming the blockbuster into a visually stunning 3D masterpiece. From high-flying action to emotional depth, the 3D effects draw audiences deeper into the MCU. “It was an honor to collaborate with Emma Webb and the talented team at Marvel to create such an immersive and breathtaking 3D experience,” shared Jason Bomstein (Stereographer) and Sanford Warwick (Paint Supervisor) at SDFX Studios.

One of the film’s standout features is Captain America’s shield, an iconic symbol that presented unique challenges for the SDFX Studios team. Marvel’s attention to detail demanded that the shield maintains its flawless shape and scale, even in the fastest-moving sequences. “The shield is such a symbol—it has to look flawless in every frame,” explained Warwick. “Whether it’s soaring through the air or captured in a close-up shot, we ensured it remained visually consistent.”

The cathedral fight sequence early in the film exemplifies this attention to detail. Warwick described the scene as a long, narrow hallway fight where Captain America takes on multiple soldiers while working his way toward the enemy’s stronghold. “The confined space created a unique challenge, but it also made the fight feel more intense and immersive,” he said. “Once the shield starts bouncing off walls and heads, you feel like you’re right there in the action. That sequence is one of the shots I’m most proud of—it’s fast, interactive, and a lot of fun.”

A key moment in the film is the jaw-dropping transformation of Red Hulk. This sequence was another favorite for Sandford, who explained the thought process behind crafting such a powerful 3D moment. “We just thought big—we wanted the Hulk to feel gigantic, like he’s taking over the entire press conference,” Warwick shared.

The team’s goal was to highlight Red Hulk’s immense size and menace without overemphasizing details that could detract from his presence. “You can almost go too far if you put too much depth into something; it can end up looking miniaturized,” he noted. By carefully balancing the 3D depth and scale, SDFX ensured that Red Hulk retained his commanding presence on screen.

Jason shared “You always want your Hulks to be big and imposing. They’re powerful, intimidating creatures, and what makes this one exciting is that it’s not just another Hulk—it has a fresh, unique character feel.” The team paid extra attention to this new iteration of Hulk, embracing the challenge of introducing something fresh to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. “It’s always fun when you get to bring more and more into it,” Bomstein added.

Beyond spectacle, the 3D enhances Sam Wilson’s aerial maneuvers and close-quarters combat, making every movement feel sharper and more immersive. “In 3D, we can build depth into action sequences, like Captain America’s wings slicing through objects, while keeping the audience’s attention where we want it,” Bomstein shared. “It helps your eye and brain register the action more quickly, especially in rapid, high-energy scenes.” Bomstein pointed to another standout sequence: a car-side fight reminiscent of The Winter Soldier. “That knife fight scene in Winter Soldier is iconic, and this felt like a nod to that,” he said. “The choreography captured that same visceral energy while adding a fresh twist.”

Throughout their work on these action-packed sequences, SDFX Studios has always balanced spectacle with storytelling. As Jason Bomstein explained, “Our focus is on making those key action sequences stand out without overpowering the narrative.” This balance is especially important in Marvel films, where the action is as integral to the story as the characters themselves.

With its thrilling action, compelling storytelling, and breathtaking 3D visuals, Captain America: Brave New World is a cinematic experience like no other.
